Aquaterra Energy and Seawind Ocean Technology have signed an agreement to develop the world's largest floating offshore wind and green hydrogen production project in Italy. The project, called HyMed, is currently in the permitting phase of its first phase, with grid connection and environmental impact assessment underway.

The wind and hydrogen offshore assets are planned to be developed and built by Italy's Aquaterra Energy and Seawind, providing thousands of qualified jobs, the partners said. Aquaterra Energy will provide its offshore engineering and green hydrogen production expertise, while Seawind will bring its years of expertise in floating offshore wind technology to drive the development.

We are delighted to be working with Aquaterra Energy on these highly impactful projects in Italy and Greece. Dimitrios Moudouris, CEO of Seawind Ocean Technology, said: “We believe that the Mediterranean Sea is the best region where major offshore wind projects can be developed and generate cross-border synergies, serving the EMEA region.

The company said HyMend will enable Aquaterra Energy to leverage the expertise built up from its previous work on a fully scalable model of offshore green hydrogen production and apply it to Seawind's approach to floating offshore wind, which could speed up the production process. We are very excited about the production opportunities this new partnership will bring as governments and businesses recognize the value of hydrogen as a vital resource for net-zero initiatives, energy security and protection from fluctuating natural gas prices. Keywords: engineering news, overseas news.

Seawind's fully integrated and scalable floating wind model offers a clear path to cost-effective industrial-scale production, and we're excited to provide it with the final piece of the production puzzle. According to the partners, the collaboration will serve as a template for the two companies’ future offshore renewable energy projects, including an exclusive 300MW hydrogen production project called Icarus in southwestern Greece.Editor/XingWentao
