Recently, the preliminary design of the newly-built Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway section from Wuhan to Yichang from Hankou to East Hanchuan was jointly approved by China National Railway Group and the People's Government of Hubei Province. So far, the preliminary design of the Wuhan-Yichang section of the newly built Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway has been approved. The approval of the preliminary design also indicates that the route plan of the Hewu section of the high-speed railway along the Yangtze River and the direct line of the Wuhan hub at the Wuhan hub is finally stable, laying a solid foundation for the official start of the project.

Wuhan-Yichang Section of Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-speed Railway

From May 16 to May 17, 2022, the Engineering Design Appraisal Center of China National Railway Group organized a preliminary design review meeting for the Hankou-Hanchuan East Section of the Shanghai-Chongqing High-speed Railway (High-speed Railway along the Yangtze River). The approval of the preliminary design is another major development following the start of construction of the entire line from the east of Hanchuan to the north of Yichang in December 2021.

The newly-built Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway line from Wuhan to Yichang starts from Hankou Station, and uses the 17.9-kilometer Han-Yi Railway to set up a new line to the west, passing through Hanchuan, Tianmen, Zhongxiang, Jingshan, Jingmen, Dangyang to Yichang, and connecting The Yichang-Zhengwan high-speed railway link line Minjiachong line has a total length of 313.8 kilometers, of which the new line is 295.9 kilometers long. The design speed is 350km/h.

The Hankou-Hanchuan east section is the introduction of the Wuyi high-speed railway into the Wuhan hub project. The relevant construction contents include: reconstruction of the Hanyi up-line, utilization of the existing Hanyi line, renovation of the Hankou passenger station, the connection line between Wuyi and Hankou, and the starting point to Hanchuan East Station DK26+607.08 main line.

Design scheme for the intersection of the Wuhan hub through line and the high-speed rail along the river

Since the Wuyi section and the Hewu section of the Shanghai-Chongqing high-speed railway are connected on the main line of the Dongxihu District, and there are about 8 kilometers of intersections with the Wuhan hub through-line, affected by factors such as the adjustment of the Wuhan hub through-line connection plan, this section is initially Design work progresses later than the mainline and requires separate approval.

The project is an important part of the high-speed railway along the river and an important project to enhance the capacity of Wuhan's hub. The construction of this project is of great significance for Hubei Province to integrate into the national comprehensive three-dimensional transportation backbone network and strengthen the status of Wuhan's hub.
