In the northeast of Israel in early October 2022, the midday temperature is as high as 37 ℃. Under the scorching sun, a group of Chinese constructors who are committed to their duties are sticking to their guns to promote the transformation of local power structure to clean energy. This is the largest pumped storage power station project in Israel, which is contracted by China Power Construction Corporation. The total installed capacity is estimated to be 344 MW, and the unit is 275 meters below sea level. After completion, it will become the lowest pumped storage power station in the world.
At present, the main body of the lower reservoir 236 meters below sea level has been completed, and the white impermeable geomembrane of more than 300000 square meters is particularly striking in the mountains. Han Hongwei, the general manager of the project, said that the pumped storage power station can realize peak load regulation and valley filling of power system power through alternate operation of power generation and pumping, which is an economical, efficient and stable energy storage mode. Israel is a developed country, but it lacks experience in the construction of pumped storage power plants. This project has brought mature and advanced Chinese technology, which will provide high-quality electricity and ensure the stability of power supply.
"As the terrain is low and the groundwater level is high, the seepage test during excavation is severe; the geological plate of the reservoir location is active, requiring high seismic intensity design; Israel is seriously short of fresh water resources, and the relevant departments have extremely strict requirements on the leakage of the entire reservoir basin..." Ao Guohui remembers many problems when he arrived at the project three years ago.
In the sweltering underground tunnel, Ibrahim Mond, an Arab in charge of safety production, said that he benefited a lot from his experience of cooperation with the Chinese team and excellent Chinese construction technology.
Yehuda Arronov, a Jewish engineer in charge of on-site implementation, could not help but give a thumbs up: "If Chinese enterprises had not constructed here, the project would not have progressed so smoothly."Editor/Ma Xue
