Recently, the Minister of Electricity of Iraq Adel Karim said that Iraq plans to sign contracts with foreign companies to develop photovoltaic projects in 2023. The total installed capacity of these projects is close to 5GW.
Karim said that the Ministry of Energy of Iraq has signed a contract with several foreign companies to build a photovoltaic system with a total installed capacity of 7.5GW. The recently awarded PV project is only part of the first phase of the comprehensive plan of the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq to increase its dependence on renewable energy.
He said that we are seeking to sign new contracts with some international companies to build more photovoltaic power generation systems with a total installed capacity of 5GW. Iraq has signed agreements worth billions of dollars with Total Energy of France and Masdar, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, to build seven large photovoltaic power plants in different regions of Iraq.
