On October 10, 2022, the ignition and power generation ceremony of the first gas turbine of Kyaukpyu Gas Combined Cycle Power Station in Myanmar invested and constructed by China Power Construction Group was held, which marked that the project officially entered the countdown to putting into production and power generation. Aung Zeya, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Energy of Myanmar, Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, and relevant leaders of enterprises and representatives of partners attended the ceremony.

Ang Zeya pointed out in his speech that the investment and construction of Kyaukpyu Project is of great significance to ease the regional power shortage, boost the local economy and promote employment. Since the commencement of the project, we have actively fulfilled our social responsibilities, extensively carried out public welfare activities such as donating money to help students, fighting epidemic and providing disaster relief, and won widespread praise from all walks of life. He hoped that POWERCHINA would continue to give play to the advantages of the "investment, construction and operation" integrated whole industry chain and further promote Myanmar China extensive cooperation in the field of renewable energy.

Chen Hai congratulated the official ignition and production of the first gas turbine of Kyaukpyu Gas Power Station. He pointed out that the investment, development, construction and implementation of Kyaukpyu Project have been highly concerned by the governments of China and Myanmar, which has brought tangible benefits to both sides. During the construction of the project, relevant parties jointly fought against the epidemic, helped each other, overcome difficulties, made outstanding contributions to the development of various undertakings in Rakhine State, vigorously promoted the deepening and implementation of the cooperation between the two countries on the Belt and Road and the China Myanmar Economic Corridor, and added luster to the inheritance of the friendship between China and Myanmar and the construction of a community of shared future between China and Myanmar.

Kyaukpyu Gas Power Station Project in Myanmar is located in Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone, Rakhine State, western Myanmar. The installed capacity of the project is 135 MW. After completion, the annual on grid power will be about 1 billion kWh, which can provide stable and reliable power for Myanmar's main power grid. It will greatly alleviate the energy shortage in the Rakhine region and lay a solid foundation for the development of Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone.

Sheng Yuming, chairman of POWERCHINA Overseas Investment Corporation, said that Myanmar is an important fulcrum of the Belt and Road Initiative and a key market that POWERCHINA has cultivated for many years. Kyaukpyu Project is an important infrastructure project that affects the local people's livelihood and industrial development, playing a significant benchmarking effect.
