Recently, a consortium led by Yangtze River Environmental Protection Group and participated by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau and Yangtze River Design Company won the bid for Wuhan Tangxun Lake Basin Comprehensive Treatment PPP Project. This project is to further deepen the treatment of Tangxun Lake Basin on the basis of the first phase of Tangxun Lake Basin Comprehensive Treatment Project implemented by Yangtze River Environmental Protection Group.

Located in the southeast of Wuhan, Tangxun Lake is the largest urban lake in Asia, with a water area of 47.62 square kilometers and a total drainage area of 240.48 square kilometers, involving Jiangxia District, Hongshan District and East Lake High tech Zone.

Walking into the site of Phase I treatment of the project, you can see a huge green "flower" on the lake. Now the "petals" are full of plants, realizing the original idea of treatment. In fact, this "flower" is an artificial floating wetland with an area of nearly 5000 square meters. Aquatic plants that can purify water quality are planted in the fiber pores of its standardized modules. Now the plants are growing vigorously and playing a purification role.

The total investment of the bid winning Tangxun Lake Basin Comprehensive Treatment PPP Project is about 4.983 billion yuan. The project construction mainly includes the construction of new sewage and first rain collection and treatment facilities, outlet reconstruction, environmental dredging and ecological restoration. The design will increase the scale of first rain regulation and storage by about 212000 m3/day, the scale of first rain treatment by 65000 tons/day, the scale of dry season sewage treatment by 70000 tons/day, and the scale of rainy season sewage treatment by 100000 tons/day.

It is said that the project will effectively reduce the pollution load into and out of the Tangxun Lake, improve the efficiency of sewage collection in the basin, remove the stock pollution in the internally heavily polluted areas, improve the water environment quality in the Tangxun Lake basin, improve the human living environment in the basin, and help Wuhan build a distinctive waterfront ecological city.

In recent years, Wuhan has continued to carry out water environment treatment and ecological protection. Water environment treatment has gradually changed from morphological protection to comprehensive treatment. Through comprehensive means such as source control and pollution interception, water body treatment, water system connectivity, and key river basin treatment, the water environment quality of urban lakes such as Shahu Lake, East Lake, and South Lake has steadily improved, and significant achievements have been made in pollution source control.

On the basis of continuously improving the water environment quality of rivers and lakes, Wuhan will further deepen the elements of water environment watershed management and ecosystem protection, and promote the improvement of river and lake water environment from reaching the standard to being healthy.
