"Safety first is not a slogan. Safety work is a line of defense and a guarantee for the smooth operation of the entire construction site." Recently, at the construction site of the new administrative capital CBD project in Egypt, Yan Yueping told reporters that "ensuring zero accidents at the construction site is the red line of safety work".

Yan Yueping, 26 years old, is a safety engineer of CSCEC Egypt Branch (CSCEC Egypt), the contractor of the new administrative capital CBD project in Egypt. The project is located about 50 kilometers east of the current capital Cairo, with a total area of about 505000 square meters, including 20 high-rise buildings and supporting municipal projects. Among them, the most eye-catching is the "landmark tower" project. Its structural height is 373.2 meters, and the highest point of the tower crown is 385.8 meters. The main floors are used for hotels and offices. The new administrative capital CBD project will become a new landmark of Egypt and a symbol of Egypt's modernization.

Feel the pulse for architecture

During more than one year of project work, Yan Yueping witnessed many moments when this landmark tower, known as "Africa's tallest building", rose up in the desert. As a safety engineer, his responsibility is to "check the pulse" for the sign inside and outside the Tarim and ensure its safe "rise". Every day, from the podium to the tower, he walked almost every corner of the construction site, carefully checked the work at heights, large equipment, fire control, temporary electricity, etc., corrected the illegal operations, and eliminated potential safety hazards.

On the boom tower crane higher than the tower crown, he climbed up the tower crane balance arm to check the wire rope; At the 370 meter high tower crown, he told the workers to use the fall arrestor correctly; At each construction floor, he checked whether the safety measures were in place one by one.

In the vast desert, tall buildings stand tall and spectacular. In the hot sun, the workers stuck to their posts and carried out construction work in a tight and orderly manner. At present, the construction of the main structures of all 20 buildings in the CBD project has been completed, and it has entered the stage of decoration and mechanical and electrical installation. Among them, the curtain wall project of the landmark tower has entered the stage of tower crown construction sprint.

"The sign tower is a super high-rise building, and the curtain wall construction is mostly high-altitude and edge work. The project has established a special rectification supervision team. If it is found that there is no safety belt for high-altitude and edge work or the safety belt is not fastened properly, the project suspension order will be issued immediately, and the construction can be started only after the qualified safety belt is equipped." Wang Xiaolong, the project manager of the logo tower curtain wall, said.

Wang Xiaolong introduced that in order to ensure the safety and order of curtain wall construction, he organized workers to carry out safety education in the morning shift meeting every morning, carried out special safety inspection and rectification every week, and carried out the selection of behavior safety stars at least once a month.

"The curtain wall installation is of high risk. The acceptance of hoisting equipment, the acceptance of protective facilities, the safety education of workers, and the management of cross operation are the key points of safety management in the construction process." Yan Yueping said that, on the one hand, through daily inspection, if any hidden danger is found, the subcontractor shall be notified to rectify in time to provide a safe working environment for workers; On the other hand, safety education shall be carried out to improve the safety awareness of workers.

The sign tower project involves multi discipline cross operation, which requires the safety engineer to have a good understanding of civil engineering, steel structure, interior and exterior decoration and other disciplines, so as to better carry out safety management. When Yan Yueping first arrived at the project in January 2021, the landmark tower was in the tense construction stage of the main steel structure. The new mechanical equipment, structural form, and safety management concept doubled his pressure. With the encouragement and help of Zhao Jinlong, the safety director of the project, Yan Yueping rose to the challenge, became familiar with the scheme, learned the norms, went deep into the site, and continued to practice and accumulate.

Now, Yan Yueping is one of the backbone of the safety management of the landmark tower project. Every day, from the safety education for the workers entering the site to the safety inspection of the construction site, he does these trivial safety management regulations day after day. "As long as the project is not completed, there will be more patrols." Yan Yueping said that he would conscientiously do his job and escort the construction of "the highest building in Africa".

As an important project of Egypt's national rejuvenation plan and a key project of China Egypt joint construction of the the Belt and Road, the Central Business District project also actively practices the concept of the Belt and Road initiative for joint consultation, construction and sharing in the construction process.

Chang Weicai, general manager of CSCEC Egypt Branch, introduced that during the project construction, the project employed a large number of Egyptian workers and used a large number of local products, which directly or indirectly led to the employment of more than 30000 people and the development of Egypt's construction industry.
