Doosan Energy has awarded a US $1.21 billion contract from South Korea for hydropower and nuclear power to build a turbine island at the 4.8GW El Dabaa nuclear power plant in Egypt. El Dabaa project marks its first overseas nuclear power plant construction contract. Doosan Energy will also be responsible for providing major equipment, including reactors and steam generators.

Inwon Park, CEO of EPC Business Group of Doosan Energy Plant, said that as this is the first nuclear power plant construction contract we won overseas, it is of great significance to Doosan Energy, which can have a new nuclear power construction record in the global market. We will try our best to successfully complete this project, so that we can contribute to the efforts of the government and KHNP to win more global nuclear projects in the future.

El Dabaa nuclear power plant project was won by Rosatom subsidiary ASE from Egypt Atomic Energy Agency in 2017. In August 2022, KHNP won the contract of ASE to build the turbine island of the nuclear power project. The construction of the first tower is planned to start in August 2023.
