On November 24, 2022, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the construction site for the T2 terminal and the geotechnical engineering of the renovation and expansion project of Kunming Changshui International Airport.
Changshui International Airport reconstruction and expansion project
It is reported that the total investment of the renovation and expansion project of Kunming Changshui International Airport is 64.07 billion yuan. The main construction contents of the airport project include the construction of West 2 runway (4000 m ×45 m) and taxiway system on the west side of the current West runway, with the flight area index 4E; Construction of East 2 runway (4000 m ×45 m) and taxiway system on the east side of the current east runway, flight area indicator 4F. The construction period of the project will be 5 years, and it is expected to be officially put into use in December 2028.
An additional 730,000 square meters of terminal 2, with 164 slots (76C82E6F), will be built north of the existing terminal area. Supporting construction of 80,000 square meters of integrated transportation center and 309,000 square meters of parking buildings. A total of 99,300 square meters of cargo facilities and 170,000 square meters of maintenance facilities were built. Auxiliary facilities and equipment such as air traffic control and navigation, water supply and drainage, power supply, cooling and heating, production and living shall be constructed simultaneously.
The T2 terminal and its affiliated geotechnical engineering are located in the central area of T2 terminal construction. The main implementation contents include original foundation treatment engineering, earthwork engineering, slope protection, high fill drainage, etc. The total investment of the project is 1.292 billion yuan. The maximum slope height is about 47 meters, the maximum filling thickness is about 76 meters, and the filling volume is 16.12 million cubic meters. The excavation volume is about 100,000 cubic meters, and the total area is about 758,000 square meters.
Lu Xuesong, deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Transport and director of the provincial local Civil Aviation Development Bureau, said that the construction of the T2 terminal of the Kunming Airport reconstruction and expansion project and the geotechnical engineering of the auxiliary engineering will provide a strong basic guarantee for Yunnan to build a radiation center in South and Southeast Asia.
The T2 terminal and its ancillary facilities are expected to be put into use in December 2028, said Gu Jingtao, chief engineer of the Kunming International Aviation Hub Project Construction headquarters. By then, Kunming Changshui Airport will be directly connected with subway and high-speed railway, forming a ground transportation network with high-speed railway, intercity railway, urban rail and expressway as the backbone. The airport's one-hour ground service will cover the city cluster in central Yunnan, forming an efficient air-ground transportation service. Editor/He Yuting
