Atlas Renewable Energy has launched a 300 MW solar power plant in Campeche, Mexico. The $340 million La Pimienta solar project will sell electricity to the Federal Power Commission of the Mexican State Power Company under a 15 year power purchase agreement.
La Pimienta consists of more than one million solar panels distributed on 651 hectares of land, the company said in a statement, adding that the solar park is currently the second largest photovoltaic facility in Mexico. La Pimienta represents the first large-scale solar renewable energy investment in Campeche, involving high-quality institutions including the Inter American Development Bank (IDB), the National Bank for Public Works and Services, MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Bank and Societe Generale.
The largest operating photovoltaic power station in the country is Villanueva project, which consists of Villanueva I (427 MW) and Villanueva III (327 MW) facilities. It is located in the Mexican state of Coavera and is part of Enel's 1 GW capacity allocation won in Mexico's first energy auction in 2016.Editor/Xing Wentao
