Passengers who often take high-speed rail to and from Shanghai and Nanjing will find that the distance and time to travel from different stations in Shanghai to Nanjing Station or Nanjing South Station are different, because there is more than one high-speed rail line between Shanghai and Nanjing, which is more than 300 kilometers long. When passengers take the high-speed railway between Shanghai and Nanjing, they can walk in several ways. Different lines have different stops and running distances.

Shanghai Nanjing High speed Railway

The first high-speed railway between Shanghai and Nanjing was put into operation in July 2010, with a total length of 301 kilometers and a maximum design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. There are 21 stations between Shanghai and Nanjing, which is the main role of the high-speed railway between Shanghai and Nanjing. As an early high-speed railway in the Yangtze River Delta, Shanghai Nanjing High speed Railway runs through the core area of the Yangtze River Delta, which is the most densely populated urban agglomeration, the most developed productivity, the strongest economic growth and the most dynamic development in China, making Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang and other cities a "city effect" and a steel artery to promote the modernization of the Yangtze River Delta.

Beijing Shanghai High Speed Railway

It was put into operation in June 2011. The line starts from Beijing South Railway Station and ends at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. It spans 7 provinces and cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu and Shanghai. The total length of the line is 1318 kilometers. There are 24 stations with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It was the high-speed railway with the longest route mileage and the highest technical standard in the world at that time. The Shanghai Nanjing section of the Beijing Shanghai High speed Railway starts from Shanghai Hongqiao Station, passes through Kunshan South Railway Station, Suzhou North Railway Station, Wuxi East Railway Station, Changzhou North Railway Station, Danyang North Railway Station and Zhenjiang South Railway Station, and arrives at Nanjing South Railway Station. The fastest running time of the high-speed railway between Shanghai and Nanjing is reduced to 59 minutes.

Shanghai Sutong Railway

It will be put into operation in July 2020 to connect Nanjing Qidong Railway, providing a "shortcut" for people in northern Jiangsu to and from Shanghai and Nanjing. The whole line of Shanghai Suzhou Tonghua Railway is only more than 100 kilometers, but it is of far-reaching significance for strengthening the ties between the central and northern regions of Jiangsu and the southern and Shanghai regions of Jiangsu. The trend of "Shanghai Suzhou Nantong Railway+Nanjing Qidong Railway" has greatly facilitated the travel of passengers from Nantong, Taizhou, Yangzhou and other northern Jiangsu regions to Shanghai or Nanjing. The fastest running time of Nantong Shanghai high-speed railway has been reduced to more than one hour.

South Riverside Intercity Railway

The construction will start in 2018, starting from Nanjing South Railway Station and ending at Taicang Station, and will be connected to Shanghai Sutong Railway before being introduced into Shanghai Hub, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. This is the second intercity railway between Shanghai and Nanjing. After it is completed and opened to traffic, it will undertake the intercity passenger flow in the corridors along the line and between the main cities of Shanghai and Nanjing, and promote Jurong, Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, Taicang and other top 100 counties in China to accelerate their integration into the "1-hour high-speed railway circle" of Shanghai and Nanjing.

Shanghai Nanjing Hefei High speed Railway

As an important part of the Shanghai Chongqing Chengdu High speed Railway, the Shanghai Nanjing Section has just started construction. It starts from the newly built hub Shanghai Baoshan Station in Shanghai, runs westward through Suzhou, Nantong, Taizhou, Yangzhou and Nanjing in Jiangsu Province, and ends at the borders of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. It is a fast and direct route to cities along the Yangtze River in the north of the Yangtze River, Nanjing Metropolitan Circle and Shanghai Metropolitan Circle. It undertakes the main road network passenger flow along the Yangtze River, and part of the Beijing Shanghai Channel directly connects with Shanghai passenger flow.Editor/Ma Xue
