French energy group TotalEnergies has signed an agreement with Samruk Kazyna and KazMunayGas to develop a 1GW wind farm in Kazakhstan. Total Eren, a subsidiary of the company, will develop the Milne project, which is said to be the largest wind energy project in Kazakhstan's history. Its development is part of an intergovernmental agreement between France and Kazakhstan on cooperation in addressing the climate crisis.

Patrick Pouyanne, Chairman and CEO of Total Energy, said: "Total Energy is fully committed to providing its expertise and know-how to develop Kazakhstan's natural resources, as we have done as partners in the giant Kashagan oilfield. These agreements demonstrate Total Energy's energy transformation strategy. On the one hand, we dynamically manage our portfolio by disposing of mature non core assets. On the other hand, we are very proud to be able to use major wind power in Milne The project supports the low-carbon development ambition of the country.

Total Energy said that the agreement strengthened its presence in Kazakhstan's renewable energy sector. The company also sold its Total E&P Dunga subsidiary to Kazakhstan based Oriental Sunrise for $330 million. The transaction has yet to be approved by the Kazakh authorities and the partner's right of first refusal has been waived. Keywords: overseas news, engineering news
