From December 10 to 14, 2022, the review meeting of the feasibility study report of Hubei Songzi Pumped Storage Power Station was held. The review passed the review opinions of the feasibility study report of Songzi Pumped Storage Power Station, marking that the project has achieved phased results and has taken a key step towards the full commencement of the main project.

Songzi Pumped Storage Power Station has an installed capacity of 1200MW, and four single-stage mixed flow reversible pump turbine units with a unit capacity of 300MW are installed. Located in Xiejiaping Tujia Township, the project is newly built with an investment of 8.198 billion yuan from Changyuan Power Co., Ltd. of the National Energy Group. It has been listed in the Medium and Long term Development Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035) of the National Energy Administration, and has become one of the key projects in Hubei Province during the "Fourteenth Five Year Plan".

The hydroproject mainly consists of the upper reservoir, the lower reservoir and the water conveyance and power generation system. The upper reservoir has a regulating capacity of 8.74 million cubic meters and the lower reservoir has a regulating capacity of 8.88 million cubic meters. The design annual power generation is 1.23 billion kWh, and the annual pumping power is 1.64 billion kWh. After the power station is completed and put into operation, it is estimated that 363000 tons of standard coal can be saved each year, equivalent to 962800 tons of carbon dioxide emission reduction.
