On December 15, 2022, Guangzhou Nansha Wanlong Bridge Project, the world's largest span self anchored suspension bridge designed by the Fourth Railway Research Institute and jointly constructed by China Railway Construction Bridge Bureau and China Railway 18th Bureau, broke ground on the Pearl River.

The Wanlong Bridge Project is located in Wanqingsha Town, Nansha District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It is planned to be an urban trunk road, which generally runs from southwest to northeast. It starts 500 meters west of Wanxin Avenue in the west and finally intersects the planned Wanlong East Road. The main line is about 5.146 kilometers long, with six two-way lanes and a design speed of 60 kilometers per hour.

The bridge will be constructed for the first time by using the super high elliptical steel tower space cable structure system. After the main tower of the bridge is completed, it will be like two round moons suspended on the Longxue South Waterway, reappearing a new green eco-tourism landmark landscape for Nansha.

After the completion of the bridge, a fast river crossing channel will be added to connect the Longxue Island block of the harbor block of Nansha Free Trade Zone in Guangzhou and the processing and manufacturing block of Wanqingsha Bonded Port, connect with Wanhuan West Road and Shenzhen Middle Channel, and build a sound three-dimensional transport network of multimodal transport of ports, railways, highways and municipal roads.Editor/Ma Xue
