On December 29, 2022, the commencement ceremony of Henan Songxian Pumped Storage Power Station Project was held in Huangbai Village, Checun Town, Songxian County. Xu Yixian, Deputy Secretary of Luoyang Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, announced the commencement of the project.

Project overview

Songxian Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Checun Town, Songxian County, Luoyang City. It covers an area of 4581.17 mu. It is planned to install six 300000 kilowatt pumped storage units. The designed annual power generation capacity of the station is 2.046 billion kilowatt hours, and the annual pumped power is 2.728 billion kilowatt hours. It is connected to Henan power grid with two 500 kilovolt outgoing lines. The total investment of the project is 11.5 billion yuan. The total construction period is 7 years. It is expected to be put into production by the end of 2029. During the construction of the power station, the local GDP can be increased by more than 1 billion yuan annually, and more than 4000 jobs will be created, which will add "strength" to the energy supply side of Henan.

After the completion of Songxian Pumped Storage Power Station, it is mainly responsible for peak shaving, frequency modulation, phase modulation, energy storage, system backup and other tasks, and is built as a national 5A scenic spot, which will drive the construction of surrounding mountain roads, residents' employment, tourism resources and urbanization, and promote common prosperity. It is estimated that during the operation period, the annual business income of the enterprise will exceed 1.5 billion yuan, and the annual tax contribution will be about 150 million yuan. At the same time, it can reduce raw coal consumption by about 630,000 tons every year, reduce carbon dioxide by 1.58 million tons, sulfur dioxide by 40,000 tons, and nitrogen oxides by 20,000 tons, and achieve win-win economic, ecological and social benefits.

It is understood that Songxian Pumped Storage Power Station Project will be included in the Medium and Long Term Development Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035) of the National Energy Administration in 2021. It is the first batch of key development and construction projects in Henan Province's "Fourteenth Five Year Plan" development plan, and also the ninth pumped storage power station built in our province. Its total installed capacity is the second in the province and the first in Luoyang. After the completion of the project, it will be of great significance to optimize the safe operation mode of Henan power grid, improve the reliability of power grid operation, build a new power system, help the "double carbon" goal, improve local ecology, and promote local economic construction.
