Recently, Shanxi Changxing Island Thermal Power Plant CCUS Innovation Demonstration Project, a key scientific and technological test demonstration project of State Power Investment Group, contracted by Shanghai Province Chemical Engineering Construction Co., Ltd., was officially put into trial operation, marking the successful completion of various construction tasks of the project.

The carbon capture flue gas system is the core device of the project, which uses the organic amine chemical absorption process to absorb the flue gas emitted by the power plant, and reuse the separated and purified CO ∈; This system can absorb 91.6% of CO ∈ in the flue gas, and purify 94.8% of the purity of CO ∈, which can effectively reduce the external emissions of carbon dioxide, and blow a new horn for the green development of Shanghai Electric Power and Changxing Island.

The project will be started in September 2022. In order to complete the construction task with high quality, the project department will actively prepare for the war, overcome the unfavorable factors such as short construction period and heavy task, and mobilize strong personnel to put into the project construction. During the construction process, the Project Department carefully organized and scientifically planned, strengthened the quality and safety control, strictly implemented the node objectives, took a series of measures such as scheduling, shift work, and optimizing the construction process to ensure the effective promotion of the project, which was unanimously recognized by the Owner, the Supervisor, and the General Contractor. At the same time, the successful completion of the project not only accumulates the company's construction management experience in the installation of carbon capture system, but also lays a good foundation for developing new energy projects.

It is reported that the CCUS innovation demonstration project of Shanghai Changxingdao Thermal Power Plant is the first CCUS full process project in China to directly supply the flue gas generated by large power plants to modern shipbuilding industry and port machinery enterprises for gas shielded welding after CO 2 capture, purification, compression and liquefaction, which is of great significance to the technical level improvement and industrial development of China's low concentration smoke CCUS field. The technology used in this project is considered to be the most economical and feasible way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and slow down global warming on a large scale in the future, which has explored a new technological route for achieving carbon peak and carbon balance goals.
