This is the first time in the world that this steel has been used for such units, marking that China's high-end hydropower steel has reached the world's leading level. On September 15, 2026, the ultra large diameter slurry balance shield machine, China Railway 1662, was produced in Zhengzhou. It is the largest diameter shield machine independently developed by China and will be used for the construction of the Dongpu Reservoir tunnel under the west extension project of the North Second Ring Road in Hefei. The total length of the project line is about 10.6 kilometers, with a shield tunnel section of 2.9 kilometers, and the construction environment is complex. The shield tunneling machine has an excavation diameter of 16.68 meters and is equipped with multiple advanced technologies.
