On February 16, 2023, Sinopec held a launching ceremony in Beijing, Hohhot and Ordos, announcing the official launch of Sinopec's first green hydrogen demonstration project in Inner Mongolia - the Ordos City Scenery Integration Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project in Inner Mongolia. The project uses the rich solar and wind energy resources in Ordos to generate electricity directly to produce green hydrogen, with an annual production of 30000 tons of green hydrogen and 240000 tons of green oxygen, and is used for the carbon reduction and carbon reduction of the nearby Zhongtian Co-creation Ordos Coal Deep Processing Demonstration Project. The project has further expanded the green hydrogen production capacity in China and even the world. It is the largest green hydrogen coupling coal chemical project in the world at present. It will effectively promote the development of green hydrogen industrial chain and promote the transformation and upgrading of China's energy industry.
This project is another green hydrogen demonstration project constructed by Sinopec since the construction of Xinjiang Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project was started in 2021, and also the first green hydrogen chemical project of Sinopec in Inner Mongolia. The project is implemented by Sinopec Xinxing Company, mainly including wind and photovoltaic power generation, power transmission and transformation, electrolytic water hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and hydrogen transmission. The installed capacity of wind power generation and photovoltaic power generation is 450 MW and 270 MW respectively, the capacity of electrolytic water hydrogen production is 30000 tons/year, and the capacity of hydrogen storage is 288000 standard cubic meters. The total investment of the project is about 5.7 billion yuan. After the project is put into operation, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.43 million tons/year, contribute nearly 600 million yuan/year to GDP, and increase tax revenue by nearly 30 million yuan/year.

Further expand the application scenarios of green hydrogen. Guided by the "double carbon" goal, green hydrogen has made positive progress in transportation, metallurgy, power and other fields. This project further explores the scenario application of green hydrogen in coal chemical industry. The green hydrogen and green oxygen produced by the project will be transported to the Ordos Coal Deep Processing Demonstration Project of Zhongtian Co-creation by pipeline nearby, replacing part of coal to produce hydrogen, effectively promoting the integrated development of the traditional synthetic materials chemical industry and the hydrogen energy industry, helping the clean and efficient use of coal, expanding the sources of chemical raw materials, and forming a new industrial model and development path for the utilization of hydrogen and renewable energy.
Ma Yongsheng, Chairman of Sinopec, said that the construction of this green hydrogen chemical demonstration project is of great significance for ensuring national energy security, building a new energy system, promoting the transformation and upgrading of the energy structure and green and low-carbon development in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Sinopec will take the project construction as a new starting point, accelerate the pace of restructuring of enterprises in Inner Mongolia, comprehensively improve the quality of clean energy supply guarantee, accelerate the development of the entire hydrogen energy industry chain, promote the cooperation between enterprises and regions to a deeper level, wider field and higher level, and make new and greater contributions to the "ecological priority, green development-oriented high-quality development new path" in the autonomous region.
Sinopec's first green hydrogen production-utilization full-process project integrating wind energy and photovoltaic power generation has solved many technical problems of hydrogen production under the condition of renewable fluctuating power supply. Using advanced wind power generation and electrolytic water hydrogen production technology, relying on the green power hydrogen production configuration optimization software independently developed by Sinopec Engineering and Construction Corporation, a complete set of green power hydrogen production technology is formed to solve the contradiction between the hydrogen production volatility of direct hydrogen production from wind power, photovoltaic power generation and other new energy power generation and the stability of hydrogen demand of downstream chemical enterprises, and achieve the lowest overall hydrogen production cost.
In addition, the configuration optimization and process control technology of electrolytic hydrogen production system adapted to complex working conditions has been studied and formed, so that the load of solar power generation and hydrogen production equipment can be synchronized and balanced, while ensuring the safety and reliability of the equipment, the system efficiency can be improved, and it is of great significance to promote the stable consumption of solar power in provinces with advantages in solar resources.
