The internal combustion engine is the leading driving force for transportation, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, fishing vessels, and national defense equipment. The internal combustion engine industry is an important basic industry. The reliability of internal combustion engines directly affects the performance and service life of supporting equipment, and profoundly affects the sustainable development of my country's internal combustion engine industry and related industries. Improving the reliability of internal combustion engines is also one of the important ways to help my country achieve the goal of "double carbon".
In 2015, Weichai Power undertook the construction of the only national key laboratory in my country's internal combustion engine industry - the State Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine Reliability. The laboratory has always been committed to overcoming the common key technologies in the field of internal combustion engine reliability, and has cooperated with the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain to carry out technical research to promote the innovation of internal combustion engine reliability technology. Key areas such as forecasting and evaluation have achieved fruitful results, especially the increase in reliability from 1.2 million kilometers to 1.8 million kilometers. Since 2020, Weichai has successively released the world's first commercial diesel engines with body thermal efficiencies of 50.23%, 51.09%, and 52.28%, setting new benchmarks for the thermal efficiency of diesel engines in the world three times, leading my country's internal combustion engine industry to a world-class level.
In November 2022, the National Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine and Power System led by Weichai Power was officially approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and became one of the first batch of national key laboratories to complete the reorganization. Based on the National Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine Reliability, the laboratory integrates key research forces in related fields, and aims to build a national scientific and technological innovation platform, a high-level talent training base, a source of cutting-edge technology and a strategic scientific and technological force. The high-quality development of the system industry provides cutting-edge technology support. In the future, it will take 5 to 10 years to break through a number of "stuck neck" technologies in the industry. The internal combustion engine and power system technology will fully achieve international leadership. On the basis of the thermal efficiency of the diesel engine body at 52.28%, it will quickly break through 53%, and move towards 56% of the strategic technology Goal forward. The laboratory conducts no less than 100 foreign technical cooperation projects each year, and sets up no less than 30 open projects.
The International Symposium on Internal Combustion Engine Reliability Technology will be hosted by the National Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engines and Power Systems starting from this session. At the same time, combined with the newly added research direction of the National Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine and Power System, the "International Symposium on Power System Technology" will be organized in the future to create a new platform for cutting-edge technology exchanges in the power system industry, and give full play to the new platform's integration of "industry-university-research-application" The supporting role of chemical chain and innovation, and strive to create two banners of academic exchanges on internal combustion engine and power system technology.
