The Bonn-Cologne highway was renamed A555 in Germany in 1958. It was announced by Adenauer, the then mayor of Cologne, on August 6, 1932. Adenauer, however, at that time this road was not called a highway, but Another expression called motorway, perhaps because of procrastination, so it has not been widely used. However, this section of the road is not on the route. In fact, Cologne and Bonn are to the west of the Rhine, and from the east of the Rhine to Switzerland.
Germany is proposing a major road-tunnel link linking the cities of Cologne and Bonn. German autobahn operator Autobahn has now identified a preferred route for the project, which was first proposed in 2016.
The 3-kilometre tunnel will run under the Rhine, providing new connections between cities and reducing congestion and journey times for drivers. The tunnel will link the existing A59 and A555 routes. The project is expected to cost 1.15 billion euros to build and construction will take eight years.Editor/XingWentao
