The convening of the 12th Moses high-level meeting provides an opportunity for the two countries to restart the Gibraltar tunnel project. The Seymour Minister of Transport said that we will expedite the study of the Gibraltar Channel Tunnel Project, which is of strategic importance to both Seymour countries as well as Europe and Africa.
The tunnel is expected to open in 2030. The total length of the project is 38.7 kilometers, of which 27.7 kilometers are underwater, 11 kilometers are underground, and the maximum depth is 300 meters.
The tunnel was first proposed in a joint statement in 1979. For 40 years, diplomatic and political differences have delayed construction of the 38-kilometre tunnel. An undersea tunnel from Tangier, Morocco, to Tarifa, Spain, is becoming a reality as the two nations aspire to a stronger friendship.
Azzedine Khamrich, an international relations expert, said in an interview: "The appointment of the director of the Gibraltar Strait National Research Corporation is a sign of increased cooperation between Madrid and Rabat." The expert added: "The tunnel is promising in many ways because it It can benefit both countries, especially in terms of revitalizing transportation and economic exchanges.”Editor/Xu Shengpeng
