On the morning of March 1, 2023, the second-stage project of the first phase of the North Main Canal of Xiangjiaba Irrigation District officially started. It marks a solid step in the construction of the backbone water network in our province.
The Xiangjiaba Irrigation District Project is an important part of the backbone water network in Sichuan Province. The project draws water from the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station and diverts water to the South Sichuan Economic Zone through the construction of canal pipelines. The entire project is implemented in three phases. The first-phase and second-stage project of the North Main Canal of Xiangjiaba Irrigation District is one of the major water conservancy projects that the Ministry of Water Resources will focus on promoting in 2023. It involves 7 districts and counties in 4 cities, including Zigong, Neijiang, Luzhou, and Yibin, with a total investment of 8.13 billion yuan. The water volume can reach 473 million cubic meters, the designed irrigation area is 1.473 million mu, and the water supply population is 1.14 million. After completion, the grain production capacity can be increased by 380 million catties.
Dai Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Sichuan Xiangjiaba Irrigation District Construction and Development Co., Ltd.: The first phase and second phase of the project will start construction on the whole line before September 2023, and the 48-month construction period will be approved according to the preliminary design. Completed, with water conditions.
At the same time, the first-stage project of the North Main Canal of Xiangjiaba Irrigation District is also being accelerated in an all-round way. The total investment of the project is 7.603 billion yuan, and the designed irrigation area is 512,700 mu. Since the start of the main project in August 2019, the project construction has overcome many construction difficulties such as long water diversion lines and high channel-tunnel ratio. At present, a total investment of 5.235 billion yuan has been completed, and 94 kilometers of tunnels have been excavated. In 2023, the first phase of the one-step project plans to complete an investment of 2 billion yuan, realize the full penetration of 100 kilometers of tunnels, and lay a solid foundation for reaching the water-through conditions in August 2024.
