At 20:30 on March 10, 2023, SWOG drilled Well 205H1-8 to a depth of 7,015 meters and successfully completed the drilling. The vertical depth was 4,112.11 meters, and the horizontal section was 2,660 meters long. It was the deepest shale gas well in southern Sichuan and the longest horizontal section. The two long records have further improved the construction experience of the long horizontal section under complex geological conditions in southern Sichuan, and laid a solid foundation for increasing reserves and production of deep shale gas in southern Sichuan.

Well Zi 205H1-8 is a key development well deployed by SWOG in the Panlong field syncline of the Zigong low-fold structure. The geological conditions in this block are complex, and there are multiple sets of pressure systems in the same open-hole section, which are prone to leakage and collapse risks; the Longmaxi Formation has low resolution of geophysical data, thin platinum targets, micro-structure development, and easy wall instability. The difficulties, such as the high wellbore friction and torque caused by the undulation of the long horizontal section trajectory, the high well temperature caused by the deep burial of the target layer, and the easy failure of the swirling instrument, not only affect the trajectory control, friction and drag reduction and borehole Cleaning puts forward higher requirements, and it is a great challenge to fine management, on-site operation and cycle control.
