On March 30, 2023, the construction of the Xialiujia Irrigation Project in Laibin City, Guangxi started. The project is one of the 150 major water conservancy projects deployed and implemented by the State Council. It has been included in the list of major water conservancy projects to be promoted by the Ministry of Water Resources in 2023. The total construction period of the project is 48 months and the total investment is 4.82 billion yuan.

The total designed irrigation area of Xialiujia Irrigation District is 592,000 mu, including 4 irrigation areas including Luoliu irrigation area, Yunjiang east irrigation area, Liujiang west irrigation area and Shixianghe irrigation area. The project uses 4 medium-sized reservoirs such as Xialijia Reservoir, Changcun Reservoir, Fengshou Reservoir and Shixianghe Reservoir as the backbone water sources. Through the demolition and construction of 9 water diversion hubs, 3 new pump stations, and 104 new backbone canals ( 673.5 kilometers, two new connection projects will be built to make the water sources in the irrigation area interconnected, and the entire irrigation area will form a multi-source complementary engineering layout.

Xialiujia Irrigation District is located in an area with abundant sunshine, abundant heat and long frost-free period, which is very suitable for the growth of tropical and subtropical crops. It is a golden area for agricultural development and an important grain and sugar cane production base in Guangxi. After the completion of the project, the irrigation guarantee rate and comprehensive agricultural production capacity of the irrigation area can be effectively improved. The newly added and restored irrigated area is 302,000 mu, and the irrigated area is improved by 290,000 mu. It is of great significance to promote the economic and social development of old revolutionary areas and ethnic minority areas, consolidate and expand the achievements of poverty alleviation and effectively link up with rural revitalization .
