According to reports, the Wuhan-Chongqing Expressway is a parallel line of G42 (Shanghai-Chengdu) among the 18 east-west horizontal lines of the national expressway network in the "National Highway Network Planning", and the project number is G4223. Among them, the Tianmen-Jingmenjie-Erguang expressway section is a key project of the skeleton opening project issued by the Provincial People's Government in the "14th Five-Year Plan for Comprehensive Transportation Development in Hubei Province". The total length of the project is 44.268 kilometers. It adopts the standard design of a two-way six-lane expressway with a design speed of 120km/h and a roadbed width of 34 meters. The estimated total investment is 9.183 billion yuan. The project starts from the vicinity of Lujiatan Village at the junction of Tianmen in Jingmen and connects to the Tianmen section of Wuhan-Chongqing Expressway, and ends near Haotai Village on the south side of Wulipu Town. It is connected to National Highway 207, with a total of 20162m/26 bridges and 2 hubs. , there are generally 4 interchanges, 1 service area, and 4 ramp toll stations.

The Wuhan-Chongqing Expressway runs through the development belt along the Yangtze River and occupies the kink position of the two major development belts along the Yangtze River and Xiangjing-Yizhou. After the completion of the project, the travel distance from Shayang to Wuhan will be shortened to 150 kilometers, and it will become the most convenient high-speed passage connecting the two places.
