Algeria, located in North Africa, strives to achieve a renewable energy production capacity of 15,000 megawatts by 2035. At present, the country's total installed solar capacity is about 448 megawatts, of which the solar power plants undertaken by China Power Construction contribute more than half.
Since 2013, PowerChina has undertaken two batches of 18 photovoltaic power plants in the country, with a total installed capacity of 233 MW and 50 MW, both located in the hinterland of the Sahara Desert. Among them, the 233 MW photovoltaic power station is the first large-scale power station in Algeria, and it is also the first photovoltaic project cooperation between my country and Algeria.
At present, all 18 photovoltaic power stations have been connected to the grid for power generation, providing more than 500 million kWh of electricity for the local area every year, reducing 13,600 tons of carbon emissions, and meeting the daily electricity needs of about 47,000 households, which has effectively promoted local economic and social development.

Among them, the Tinzavateng Photovoltaic Power Plant is located in the south of Algeria near Mali, where solar energy resources are abundant. It has just entered March, and the daytime temperature has reached as high as 40 degrees Celsius.
Tinzavaten is a small town with about 250 households. Before the photovoltaic power station was put into operation, the town was powered by only one diesel generator set, and the power supply was seriously insufficient. Every high temperature season, the excessive load of electricity leads to the low voltage of the grid, and the electrical appliances cannot be used normally. "We set up a photovoltaic power station in Tinzawatten, first of all to help local people solve basic production and domestic electricity problems." The relevant person in charge of China Power Construction said.
In 2021, a construction team from PowerChina came here, facing the scorching sun and wind and sand, and built a photovoltaic power station with an installed capacity of 3 megawatts in less than a year, which will be connected to the grid for power generation in October 2022. Since then, this 12.5-hectare photovoltaic power station base has become a power supply site for local people. The owner of an electrical appliance store in the town said: "In the past, household air conditioners could not be sold due to power shortages. Now air conditioners have become a hot commodity, and the business in the store is getting better and better."
"The photovoltaic power station project undertaken by PowerChina has provided strong support for Algeria's energy transformation and is a trustworthy partner," said Algeria's Minister of Energy and Mining, Mohamed Alkab.
A few days ago, the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Algeria announced an eight-month solar power experiment in the southern part of the country. The photovoltaic power stations such as Tinzawaten and Ingezam constructed by Power China were listed as models for the experiment. power station. During the experiment, all diesel generators used in the experimental area were shut down, and all electricity was supplied by photovoltaic power plants to improve the utilization rate of clean energy and help tackle climate change.Editor/Ma Xue
