Tesla CEO Elon Musk may visit Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory. Just before Musk's upcoming visit to China, Tesla's first energy storage superfactory project outside the United States officially settled in the Shanghai Lingang New Area. On the afternoon of April 9, 2023, the Tesla Energy Storage Gigafactory project settled in the Lingang New Area. The Tesla energy storage superfactory project is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2023 and put into production in the second quarter of 2024.

The Tesla Energy Storage Gigafactory will plan to produce Tesla’s ultra-large commercial energy storage batteries. The initial plan is to produce up to 10,000 commercial energy storage batteries per year, with an energy storage scale of nearly 40GWh. The scope of product supply covers the global market. Megapack is a large battery that uses the iron-lithium battery developed by CATL. Energy can be stored and supplied, helping to stabilize the grid, prevent power outages, and have a complete effect on sustainable energy infrastructure.

According to reports, Megapack has a plug-and-play feature, and can easily be strung together to form a huge smart power block, which is connected to the power grid around the world. Over the past four years, Tesla has quadrupled the installation speed of the Megapack program and reduced the labor required by one-third.

Currently, Tesla's Megapack battery energy storage products are rapidly expanding production scale to meet market demand. Tesla plans to build a "gigafactory" to make Megapack batteries in Lathrop, California, and also has a production facility in Austin, Texas.

Megapack XL is Tesla's latest energy storage product, with a high capacity of 3MWh and high energy density, capable of storing up to 300MWh of electricity on an acre of land. This high-capacity and high-density energy storage system provides industries and utilities with reliable energy storage and power balancing solutions that can help power systems become more efficient and sustainable. As the cost of Megapacks falls, it will become a more economical and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuel power plants. Tesla's goal is to significantly scale up Megapack production over the next few years and provide reliable energy storage solutions to utilities and industries worldwide. It is worth mentioning that the Shanghai factory signed this time is Tesla's second energy storage super factory in the world. The only energy storage super factory currently in operation is located in California, USA.Editor/XingWentao
