Tajikistan's Transport Minister Azim Ibrohim discussed expanding cooperation in priority areas of transport and logistics with Chinese officials in Xinjiang, particularly attracting Chinese investment to complete the construction of a road between the two countries. The two sides discussed expanding cooperation in priority areas of transport and logistics, especially the construction of the Dushanbe-Kolmai road of regional importance.
Ibrohim pointed out that in 2022, with the help of China, the key sections of the second phase of the Dushanbe-Kolmai Highway will be implemented, including a 93-kilometer-long highway, two 5.2-kilometer-long tunnels, five open tunnels and other engineering structures.
It is reported that the two sides discussed the issue of unimpeded passage of goods through the Karasu-Kolmai port, as well as attracting Chinese funds to build and renovate the remaining 296 kilometers of roads. The total mileage of the roads will reach 1,008 kilometers. The parties agreed to sign official documents in this regard in the near future.
International road transport between Tajikistan and China has been in operation since August 2008. After a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Karasu-Kolmai crossing will open to incoming trucks in February 2023.
