2023 is the 10th anniversary of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. Over the past 10 years, China Railway Construction has successively undertaken a series of landmark projects in Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Peru and other Belt and Road countries and regions.
Peru, located in the west of South America, is a mountainous country. The world's longest Andes Mountains run through the whole country, and the central mountain plateau area has an average altitude of about 4,300 meters.
Rendering of Huanca Hospital Project in Peru
Since 2021, with the Huanca Hospital project in Peru, the new medical school project at the University of San Marcos, and the La Molina Agricultural University Science and Technology Innovation Park project starting successively, Lei Qiang from China Railway Construction Beijing Company led a team to start a new project in Peru. A Journey of Struggle to Build the Belt and Road.
The Huanca Hospital project is located in the town of Castro Verena at an altitude of nearly 4,000 meters. For the road section above 5,000 meters above sea level, material supply and personnel organization are all problems that need to be overcome urgently.
Lei Qiang's team is conducting preliminary survey work
In the face of many difficulties, the 36-year-old project leader Lei Qiang led the team to quickly organize local management personnel to conduct personnel recruitment, joint review of drawings, and resource collection to overcome altitude sickness, low temperature at night, lack of hot water resources and living supplies, etc., and complete the project within 20 days The department was established, and the earthwork subcontract and temporary subcontract were determined through inquiry and price comparison. The preliminary work of the project was carried out smoothly.
Commencement Ceremony of Huanca Hospital Project in Peru
On November 24, 2021 local time, the Huanca Hospital project officially started, becoming the Group's first construction project in Peru.
Lei Qiang's team helped the Chinese embassy in Peru survey and map the embassy floor plan and appraise the structural safety after the earthquake, which was highly praised by the embassy
After the construction of the first project undertaken in Peru started, Lei Qiang's team insisted on connecting with the local market, further opening up the South American market for the group.
Project rendering of the new medical school of the National University of San Marcos in Peru
On February 23, 2022, the new medical school project of the National University of San Marcos in Peru officially started construction. Relying on his experience in the construction of Luban Award projects in China, Lei Qiang led the team to integrate the spirit of craftsmanship in the new era and the concept of smart construction into the oldest university in Peru.
Peruvian National University of San Marcos
Founded on May 12, 1551, the National University of San Marcos in Peru is the oldest university officially established in the Americas and the most respected institution of higher education in the region. The medical school project is located on the campus, involving laboratories, classrooms, libraries, and nursing rooms. It is equipped with mature medical systems such as oxygen systems and fresh air systems. After the completion of the project, it will help the development of medical services in Peru in terms of discipline construction, talent team, and medical technology.
Effect drawing of prefabricated components
Facing the construction safety risks that may be brought about by the erection of the outer frame and the support of the formwork, Lei Qiang led the team to inspect the local concrete prefabricated component factory, and optimized the design of the cast-in-place exterior wall decorative concrete slab and the roof cast-in-place column-type hollow parapet For prefabricated construction. The construction method of building blocks not only effectively solves the problems of frequent teaching activities in the school and great safety hazards, but also solves the problems of long concrete pouring period and great influence of the environment on the quality of pouring.
The BIM model of the engineering electromechanical engineering of the new medical school of the National University of San Marcos in Peru
In order to make the internal pipeline layout of the medical school project more reasonable and beautiful, Lei Qiang's team used BIM technology to control the construction ahead of time and maximize the installation elevation, which not only increased the clearance of the corridor, but also improved the overall quality of the project 20 days in advance Complete the topping of the main structure.
Lei Qiang shared construction experience with the civil engineering students of the school in the container
Constructing the Belt and Road Project and teaching at the oldest university in Peru are the biggest achievements of Lei Qiang's team in the engineering construction of the medical school. The prefabricated, BIM construction and other intelligent construction methods involved in the project make the construction site of the medical school project a unique practical classroom for the students of the civil engineering department of the school, and also achieve the teacher-student relationship between the China Railway Construction staff and the Peruvian students.
Green, efficient, energy-saving and environmentally friendly prefabricated buildings have been the focus of promotion in Peru in recent years. According to data forecasts from the Peruvian Statistics Institute (INEI), by 2024, prefabricated buildings in Peru will only account for 10% to 15% of its total buildings. It is a rare opportunity for students of the Department of Civil Engineering to be able to see and touch the prefabricated building entity in person, and to discuss and communicate face-to-face with the project builders.
The project team led the students of the civil engineering department of the school to conduct on-site observation
Joshua, a sophomore student in the Department of Civil Engineering, saw that under the operation of the BIM visualization software, the building entity model was precisely combined with the mechanical and electrical comprehensive layout model, and the error of the pipeline layout method and the reserved position of the hole was controlled to within two millimeters. He exclaimed: Chinese people's wisdom construction is efficient and precise. Qiao Luo, a student at school, said with a smile, I must go to see Chinese architecture when I have the opportunity.
Exhibition of Engineering Archaeological Achievements of the Faculty of Medicine
Due to the preservation of ancient civilization sites such as Hua Caplana, the University of San Marcos is listed as an important cultural relic protection site in Peru. In order to respect the local traditional culture and protect the remains of the ancient Inca culture, Lei Qiang's team specially hired two professional archaeological experts to stand aside during the earthwork and screen the excavated earth. When the earthwork was completed, a total of 42 ancient cultural relics such as ancient fabrics, ceramic products, and shell coins were screened out, which greatly preserved the cultural value of the project site and was affirmed by the school.
