Sinosteel Samancor signed a new energy project

Recently, on the eve of the BRICS Summit in South Africa, Sinosteel Samancor Chromium and China General Nuclear Energy International Holdings Co., Ltd. signed a power purchase agreement for the Sinosteel Samancor TFC 100,000-kilowatt photovoltaic self-owned power plant project in South Africa. Wang Yan, Deputy General Manager of Sinosteel Overseas, attended the signing ceremony, and Samancor CEO Desmond McManus signed the agreement on behalf of Samancor.

The project is led by Liu Dong, director of purchasing logistics and project of Samancor. Since its launch in 2020, Liu Dong led the team to carry out multiple rounds of bidding and negotiations. Samancor finally selected CGN Energy as a partner to jointly develop and construct South Africa’s first 100,000-kilowatt solar photovoltaic power generation project. The power generated by the power generation project is mainly Sent to TFC smelter. This project is currently the largest and fastest self-provided photovoltaic power plant project in South Africa for Chinese-funded enterprises to form a substantive agreement, and it is also one of the largest private self-provided new energy projects in South Africa that has formed a PPA.

The energy project developed by Sinosteel Samancor and CGN Energy will help solve the problem of power rationing in the Samancor smelter, ensure the production of electricity for enterprises, and greatly reduce electricity costs. On the other hand, it has opened up ideas for the Samancor management team to help South Africa accelerate its energy transformation, alleviate its long-term power shortage, and promote Chinese technology to empower local development.Editor/Ma Xue
