Argentina plans to boost lithium exports to 200,000 tonnes over the next three years, with revenue expected to hit $5.6 billion by 2025. This figure will rise further to $8.7 billion by 2030.
Currently, Argentina has a lithium production capacity of 37,500 tonnes, but actual production is below that, at 33,000 tonnes per year. Argentina is one corner of the lithium triangle, which also includes Chile and Bolivia, and holds most of the world's lithium. The commodity has become all the rage in recent years, fueled by the electrification of global transportation.
The value of Argentina's lithium exports soared 133% to $233 million in the first quarter of 2023. March was the best month in three months, with lithium exports up 93% year-on-year to a value of $91 million.
Full-year lithium export revenue is expected to be about $6 billion, according to the country's economy ministry. Argentina has the world's third-largest lithium reserves, accounting for 9% of global reserves. Together with Chile and Bolivia, the country has 60% of the world's lithium reserves.Editor/XingWentao
