Indian Nuclear Power Corporation and Indian utility National Thermal Power Corporation have signed a supplemental joint venture (JV) agreement to develop nuclear power facilities in the country.

They will construct 2x700MW Chutka Madhya Pradesh Atomic Power Project and Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project which has a capacity of 4x700MW. They will also develop two pressurized heavy water reactor facilities as part of the fleet-mode nuclear program.

It was signed by NTPC Program Director Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya and NPCIL Program Director Ranjay Sharan in the presence of senior officials including the country's Minister of Electricity, New and Renewable Energy RK Singh; Minister of Atomic Energy and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission KNVyas; Ministry of Power Secretary Alok Kumar; NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh; and NPCIL CMD BC Pathak.

In October 2022, NTPC and GE Gas Power signed a memorandum of understanding to identify opportunities for co-firing hydrogen in gas turbines.

The move was initially aimed at reducing emissions from NTPC's 645MW Kawas combined-cycle gas-fired power plant in Gujarat, with plans to roll out the technology across NTPC's installed units nationwide. GE agreed to demonstrate the feasibility of co-firing hydrogen with natural gas in the 9E gas turbine deployed at the Kavas plant.Editor/XingWentao
