European transmission system operator TenneT has awarded ten grid connection contracts worth almost €5.5 billion across Europe. The contracts have been awarded to NKT, Nexans and a consortium of Jan De Nul, LS Cable and Denys to install the 525kV HVDC cable system.
The scope of the contract includes cable design, engineering, production, delivery, project management, onshore, offshore and nearshore installation of the 525kV HVDC cable and all joint works for the subsea and onshore sections. Selected contractors are expected to start work in 2023, with overland cable laying scheduled to begin after 2025.
NKT was awarded the contract for the Nederwiek 3 offshore wind project, which includes onshore landings at Geertruidenberg or Moerdijk and the connection of Doordewind 1 and Doordewind 2 at Eemshaven.
Nexans has been awarded the cable connection contract for BalWin3 and LanWin4, which will be connected in Wilhelmshaven together with LanWin2 in Lower Saxony to the Heide region in Schleswig-Holstein.
The consortium of JanDeNul, LSCable and Denys has been awarded the cable connection contract for the BalWin4 and LanWin1 offshore wind projects in Lower Saxony, which will be connected in the Unterweser region, and LanWin5 in the Rastede region. The consortium has also been awarded the contract by TenneT for the Nord OstLink section of the onshore 525kV DC corridor in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, a joint project with 50Hertz.
