On May 14, 2023, CNOOC announced to the outside world that the Hong Kong LNG (liquefied natural gas) project, which is under the general contract of the company's Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. The Hong Kong LNG project is a large-scale offshore energy infrastructure invested and constructed under the development framework of the "Hong Kong Climate Action Blueprint 2050". It mainly includes a double-berth offshore LNG receiving terminal in the form of a jacket, a land-based LNG receiving terminal and two submarine pipelines . After the LNG carrier is unloaded at the wharf, it will be stored and regasified, and then connected to two large power plants in Hong Kong through submarine pipelines to provide stable and clean power generation fuel for Hong Kong and help the green and high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

According to Liu Zhigang, deputy general manager of CNOOC Hong Kong LNG general contracting project, as the core project of the project, the Hong Kong LNG receiving terminal wharf is the world's first offshore all-steel structure double berth receiving terminal wharf, which can accommodate two of the world's largest ships. FSRU (Floating Storage Regasification Unit) or LNG carrier berthing simultaneously. The designed service life of the wharf is 50 years, more than twice that of conventional offshore LNG receiving terminals, and can withstand 4.9 million times of ship berthing impact each year, with a maximum of 2,400 tons each time.

Since the start of construction in 2020, the project teams of COOEC in Qingdao, Zhuhai and Hong Kong have worked hard to overcome the impact of the epidemic and multiple typhoons, and faced many challenges such as high technical difficulty, strict approval requirements, and complex construction environment, and achieved near-term 30 technological innovations, high-quality completion of the construction and installation of 28 single structures with a total weight of 35,000 tons, successfully crossing complex sea areas such as the Longgu Channel, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, optical cable areas, and ship-intensive areas, and completing the laying of 63 kilometers of submarine pipelines , creating a number of new engineering records, among which the maximum trenching depth is 8 meters, which is 4 times the depth of conventional submarine trenching, accumulating valuable experience for China's ultra-deep trenching operations.
