On May 19, 2023, the Shanghai Public Resources Trading Center issued an announcement on the pre-qualification of the total price contract for the construction of the new third and fourth lines of the Jinhua-Yiwu Railway and the introduction of related projects in the Jinhua area. The project will officially start construction in July and will be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2025.

The Jinhua Railway Hub Expansion and Reconstruction Project is a major implementation project included in the national plan for higher-quality integrated development of transportation in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The total investment of the project is 25.7 billion yuan, including the construction of the new Shanghai-Kunming General Express Line, the Yiwu-Jinhua Railway, the construction of the Yafan Marshalling Station, the Yangmeitang Railway Freight Center of the East China International Intermodal Port, and related connection lines. The design speed of the Yiwu-Jinhua railway is 250 km/h.

The implementation of the project will optimize the regional road network in Zhejiang, strengthen the passenger and freight capacity of the Shanghai-Kunming Corridor and the energy level of the central and western railway hubs in Zhejiang Province, relieve the tension in the channel, and effectively release the transport capacity of Jinjian, Jinyong, Hangwen and other railways. Vigorously promote the comprehensive transportation "three circles" construction.

The newly-built section DK0～DK23+001 of the third and fourth lines of the Jinhua-Yiwu Railway has a length of 23.001 kilometers, and the introduction of Yiwu Station-related Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway connection line, Jinyong Railway connection line and other pre-station projects.

Simultaneous implementation of the Hangzhou-Wenzhou railway project: the length of the third and fourth lines of the Jinhua-Yiwu railway is 0.483 kilometers, and the length of the Jinyi-Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway connection line is 1.547 kilometers.
