According to news from the website of the Ministry of Commerce on May 22, 2023, the person in charge of the Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Commerce introduced the situation of China's foreign investment and cooperation from January to April 2023. From January to April 2023, China's foreign investment continued to grow, and its non-financial direct investment abroad was 289.29 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.6% (equivalent to US$42.19 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17.6%). The non-financial direct investment of Chinese enterprises in countries along the Belt and Road was US$7.53 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9%, accounting for 17.8% of the total over the same period.
From January to April, the turnover of foreign contracted projects was 287.99 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.6% (equivalent to 42 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%); the newly signed contract value was 406.47 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2% (equivalent to 59.28 billion U.S. dollars , down 5.3% year-on-year). The turnover of contracted projects by Chinese enterprises in countries along the Belt and Road was 23.05 billion US dollars, and the newly signed contract value was 29.74 billion US dollars, accounting for 54.9% and 50.2% of the total amount in the same period respectively.
