On May 23, 2023, Hubei officially launched the mobilization meeting for the Hubei section of the Hefei-Wuhan high-speed railway, which kicked off the construction of the Hefei-Wuhan high-speed railway.

The high-speed railway along the Yangtze River, also known as the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway, traverses Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing, Sichuan and other provinces and cities along the Yangtze River in the east, middle and west. The main line of the channel along the Yangtze River is also a major landmark project to promote the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

The high-speed railway along the Yangtze River involves four projects in Hubei Province: the Hefei-Wuhan section, the Wuhan hub direct line, the Wuhan-Yichang section, and the Yichang-Fuling section. The new main line has a total length of 892 kilometers and a total investment of about 233.5 billion yuan.

The Hefei-Wuhan high-speed railway is an important part of the high-speed railway along the Yangtze River. It is also a key section of the high-speed railway along the Yangtze River. The project is located in Anhui and Hubei provinces. The line starts from Hefei in the east and passes through Lu'an City, Jinzhai County and Hubei Province Macheng City, Hong'an County, and finally Wuhan City, connecting with Hening and Hexin high-speed railways to the east, and Wuyi, Hanshi, and Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railways to the west. The high-speed railway network connected at the east and west ends has a fan-shaped radiation feature . The new main line of the project is 330.12km, of which the Hubei section is 163.28km. There are 9 stations, the bridge-tunnel ratio is 88.6%, and the 350km/h high-speed railway standard is adopted. The estimated investment is 79.252 billion yuan, of which the Hubei section is 39.996 billion yuan. The construction period is 4.5 years .

As an important section of the high-speed railway along the Yangtze River, the Hefei-Wuhan high-speed railway is also an important part of the construction of comprehensive three-dimensional traffic corridors and ecological corridors in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. It is a comprehensive three-dimensional traffic corridor, and plays an important role in accelerating the construction of Wuhan as a national central city, Hefei as a sub-central city in the Yangtze River Delta, and supporting the revitalization and development of the old revolutionary base areas in Dabie Mountains.
