From May 23 to 25, 2023, the Yihu Railway Feasibility Study Review Meeting was held, and the project approval review was passed.

The Yihu Railway is located in Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces. The line starts from Yixing Station in the north, goes along the Nanjing-Hangzhou high-speed railway to Huzhou Station through Changxing, and connects with the Huzhou-Hangzhou Railway at the south end. The total length of the line is 62.378 kilometers, of which the Zhejiang section is 44 kilometers. The project investment is estimated at 15.1797 billion yuan, including 11.3972 billion yuan for the Zhejiang section, and the design standard is 350km/h high-speed railway.

The Yihu Railway (Yixing-Huzhou high-speed railway) is the southern extension of the Yantai-Xichang-Yi Railway, and has been included in the national "Higher Quality Integrated Development Plan for Transportation in the Yangtze River Delta Region" and "Multi-level Rail Transit Planning in the Yangtze River Delta Region" And "Jiangsu Province's 14th Five-Year Railway Development and Medium- and Long-term Road Network Layout Plan", and also a key reserve project in 2024 in the "2022-2024 Three-Year Rolling Advancement Plan for the Preliminary Work of Key Transportation Projects in Jiangsu Province".

The Yihu Railway connects the Husuhu Railway directly to Shanghai, and at the same time connects Hangzhou via the Huhang Railway to the south. It is an important longitudinal trunk line in the Yangtze River Delta rail network. Quick link rail access.

It is reported that in the future, with the completion and opening of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou Railway, the running time of the high-speed railway from Yixing to Shanghai via Huzhou is expected to be shortened to less than one hour. However, the current flow of the Nanjing-Hangzhou high-speed railway is close to saturation and may continue to grow in the future. There will be many restrictions on the arrangement of the trains connecting the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou Railway via the Nanjing-Hangzhou high-speed railway to Shanghai.

Yihu Railway will effectively share part of the southbound passenger flow. The construction of the Yihu Railway as the double line of the Nanjing-Hangzhou high-speed railway will enable the Yixing-Shanghai high-speed railway passenger transport to realize public transport operation, and fully support Yixing's progress towards the goal of being deeply integrated into the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hangzhou metropolitan area within one hour.
