On May 29, 2023, the Xiangyang Municipal Transportation Bureau was informed that the Xiangyang section of the Xiangyang-Yichang Expressway and the Xiangyang section of the Xiangyang-Xinye Expressway in Henan Province are planned to start construction at the end of 2023.

Two major high-speed projects

According to reports, the Xiangyang-Yichang Expressway starts from Jiuji Town, Nanzhang County, connects with the intersection of Xiangyang-Nanzhang Expressway and Ma'an Expressway, and ends at the boundary between Xiangyang City and Yichang City. The total length is 56 kilometers, and the total investment is about 9.2 billion yuan, the Xiangyang-Yichang Expressway is planned to start construction in October 2023.

Xiangyang to Xinye Expressway, starting from the vicinity of Nanyang City on the G40 Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway in the north, passing through the east of Xinye County in the south, entering Hubei near Zhuji Town, Xiangzhou District, and ending at Shuanggou Town, Xiangzhou District, G70 Fuyin Expressway. About 87 kilometers, including about 29 kilometers in Xiangyang, with a total investment of about 4 billion yuan. The Xiangyang-Xinye Expressway is planned to start construction in December 2023.

In the future, after the completion of the Xiangyang Section of the Xiangyang-Yichang Expressway and the Xiangyang Section of the Xiangyang-Xinye Expressway in Henan Province, they will open up the expressways from Xiangyang to Yijingjing metropolitan area and the Sichuan-Chongqing urban agglomeration, creating a new Nanxiang Basin Expressway aisle.
