On June 14, 2023, Guangdong Centian Pumped Storage Project was officially approved by Heyuan Development and Reform Bureau, becoming the first approved Pumped-storage hydroelectricity in Heyuan. This project is a significant milestone in the cooperation and development of Heyuan, Shenzhen, and Shenzhen Energy Group in the energy field.

Project Overview

Centian Pumped Storage Project is located at the junction of Huangtian Town and Zengtian Town in Dongyuan County, 35km away from the urban area, and only 12km away from the 500kV Shangzhai Substation. It has convenient transportation and short access lines. The total installed capacity of the project is planned to be 1.2 million kilowatts, with a total investment of about 8.03 billion yuan. The hub project mainly consists of an upper reservoir, a lower reservoir, a water transmission and power generation system, and a ground switch station, belonging to a large-scale (Type I) project.

The area where the power station is located belongs to the Guangdong power grid coverage area, and undertakes important tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency modulation and phase modulation, and backup in the power system, with a continuous full power generation hour of 7 hours.

After the project is completed and put into operation, it is expected that the annual online power generation will be about 2.811 billion kWh, saving about 356300 tons of standard coal per year, effectively reducing the emissions of air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide. This is of great significance for improving the ecological environment of Heyuan, improving the level of clean energy utilization, ensuring the safety of the local power grid, and helping to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
