Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission officially approved the feasibility study report of the new Weifang Suqian High speed Railway Qingdao Link, marking the most critical step towards the full commencement of the two projects. It is of great significance to accelerate the construction of the auxiliary channel of Beijing Shanghai High speed Railway, improve the structure of the Regional rail network, and promote economic and social development along the line.

The new Weifang Suqian high-speed railway project starts from Weifang City, Shandong Province, passes Rizhao, Linyi City, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province in the south, and ends in Suqian, Jiangsu Province. The speed is 350 kilometers per hour. The total length of the line is 399.3 kilometers, with a total investment of 77.259 billion yuan, including 325 kilometers in Shandong Province, with an investment of 61.5 billion yuan.

Project Introduction

The Qingdao connection line of Weisu high-speed railway is located in the east of central Shandong. It is the horizontal connection line between the Coastal corridor and the Beijing Shanghai auxiliary passage. It is a high standard railway passenger transport passage that focuses on medium and short distance passenger flow and takes into account some medium and long distance passenger flow.

The project starts from Yanghekou Station on the Qinglian Railway, passes through Qingdao West Coast New Area, Weifang Zhucheng, and Rizhao Wulian, and connects with the Weisu High Speed Railway at Wulian North Station. There are four stations along the entire line, namely Yanghekou, Qingdao West, Zhucheng South, and Wulian North.

Technical standards: The project adopts a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, with a total length of 108.3 kilometers and a total investment of 23.731 billion yuan.In the "National Medium and Long Term Railway Network Plan", Qingdao is positioned as an important coastal railway hub in the country.

At present, the total railway mileage in Qingdao is 666 kilometers, including 228 kilometers of high-speed railway, 154 kilometers of high-speed railway, and 284 kilometers of general speed railway. It has basically formed a radial railway network connecting the north, west, and south directions, and a four station railway passenger transport hub pattern dominated by Qingdao railway station Station, Qingdao North railway station, Hongdao railway station, and Qingdao West railway station. Qingdao–Rongcheng intercity railway, Jinan Qingdao High speed Railway, Qingdao–Yancheng railway, Dongjiakou Port Dredging Railway The Weilai high-speed railway and others have built an intensive and efficient railway transportation network system.

However, for many years, there has been no high-speed railway from north to south in Qingdao, and there is no convenient high-speed railway passenger transport channel to the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration and Central China. The detour distance to the Yangtze River Delta and Central China urban agglomeration is long and time-consuming, and there is no direct high-speed railway to Nanchang.

The Qingdao–Yancheng railway, which was opened at the end of 2018, takes into account the needs of passengers moving southward along the coast and the railway dredging in Dongjiakou Port Area. However, this line is mixed with passengers and goods, and the speed of driving is slow, so it can not undertake the "heavy task" of the southward fast track.

At present, the fastest running time of Passenger train from Qingdao to Shanghai via Qingdao–Yancheng railway, Yantong High speed Railway, Lianzhen Passenger Dedicated Line and other lines takes more than 5 hours; To reach Hefei, it takes about 6 hours to detour through Jinan or Nanjing.

After the opening of the Weisu high-speed railway and Qingdao connecting line, Qingdao to Shanghai can save more than 30 minutes. Due to the long detour and the low level of the lines far from Suqian, time savings are limited; In the long term, it will only take about 3 hours after the coastal high-speed railway from Qingdao to Yancheng runs at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

After the connection of Weisu and Hexin high-speed railways, the operation time of the Qingdao Hefei high-speed railway will be compressed by more than half, which only takes about 3 hours; The connection between the upcoming Hewu high-speed railway and Wuhan will be shortened from the current 8 hours to about 4.5 hours. In the preliminary work of the Weisu high-speed rail project, Qingdao actively strived to submit the Qingdao Connection Line and Weisu high-speed rail as a project to the National Development and Reform Commission for approval and feasibility study, successfully solving the problem of the lack of national planning support for the connection line project, opening up the approval path, and saving time in the preliminary work.

According to the unified deployment of the provincial government, the project will strive to start construction before the end of 2023, and is expected to be completed and open to traffic in 2028.

After completion, it will form a fast and convenient channel for Qingdao and even the Jiaodong Economic Circle to reach the Yangtze River Delta region southward, increasing the flexibility of the high-speed railway network transportation organization in the Jiaodong Peninsula region, improving the supply side level of high-speed railways, and promoting the development of regions such as the Shanghai Cooperation Demonstration Zone and the Qingdao Pilot Free Trade Zone.

At the same time, it will solve the problems of mixed passenger and freight traffic and insufficient long-term freight capacity in the north section of Qingdao West railway station of Qingdao–Yancheng railway, so as to better meet the demand of cargo dredging in Dongjiakou Port Area.
