As the first light rail in Fujian Province, the Wuyi Light Rail Project has been receiving much attention. On April 9, 2020, China Railway Electrification Bureau Group's Wuyi New District Rail Transit Line Project planned the pouring of the first section of the first-stage bridge ballastless track double-track bearing platform, marking the Wuyi light rail project has entered the official track laying stage.

The total planned mileage of the Wuyi New District Tourism Sightseeing Rail Transit Project is 68 kilometers, which is planned to be implemented in three phases. It is positioned as a "tourist sightseeing route" and its main function is to ease regional transportation in Wuyishan City and Wuyi New District Pressure to attract passengers from the railway and aviation areas to the Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area, taking into account the travel requirements of Wuyishan City and Wuyi New District residents and commuting passenger traffic.

The rail transit project of Wuyi New District has a total length of 26.17 kilometers, a bridge of 9.84 kilometers, and a subgrade of 16.33 kilometers. The bridge section uses a monolithic track bed, and the subgrade section uses a gravel track bed. The main line adopts 60R2 slotted rail seamless line. The total design budget is 2.758 billion yuan. The route starts at the front road of Wuyi Shandong Station, passes through Jiangkou, Xingtian, Xiandian, Nanyuanling to the south entrance of Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area. Nine stations including Wuyi Shandong Station, Guxian Station, Ecological Museum Station, City Exhibition Hall Station, Xingtian Station, Huangtu Station, Xiandian Station, Nanyuanling Station, and Wuyishan Station will be set up on the whole line. The project construction period is 36 months.

Track construction is a necessary condition for the installation of the four power projects and the normal operation of the vehicles. The progress of the track construction directly affects the subsequent professional equipment installation and vehicle operation. It is the controlling project of this project.
