Under the Belt and Road cooperation Initiative, China helped Kenya build the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway, which connects the eastern port city of Mombasa and the capital Nairobi. It is the largest infrastructure construction project since Kenya's independence and a flagship project for the country to realize its national development vision by 2030.

In order to solve the need for railway through the national park, Chinese engineers learned from the design of the Qinghai-Tibet railway through the uninhabited area of Hoh Xil, and built a large number of wildlife passages and Bridges to protect the wildlife activities of the route from being disturbed. The Mombasa-Nairobi Railway was completed and opened to traffic in June 2017, reducing the 12-hour journey between the two places to five hours. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
