On June 20, 2023, Jiandao.com learned from the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Jiangsu Province that the first Pumped-storage hydroelectricity project in Jiangsu Province, "Jiangsu Guoxin Lianyungang Pumped-storage hydroelectricity", was officially approved during the "14th Five Year Plan" period.

The project is located in Houyuntai Mountain, Lianyungang City, with a total investment of more than 8 billion yuan. It is planned to install four 300000 kilowatt reversible pump turbine units, with a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. It is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2030. The project has good socio-economic and ecological value. During the construction period of the project, it can drive local GDP to exceed 10 billion yuan and provide about 5000 various employment positions.

After the project is completed, it can reduce standard coal consumption by approximately 94800 tons per year, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 600000 tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 17600 tons, and nitrogen oxide emissions by 9100 tons. The project is of great significance in promoting the consumption of clean energy in the coastal areas of our province, and improving the safety and stability of Jiangsu Power Grid and Tianwan Nuclear Power

It is understood that Jiangsu Guoxin Lianyungang Pumped Storage Power Station is jointly invested and developed by Jiangsu Guoxin Group, Jiangsu Nuclear Power, State Grid Jiangsu Comprehensive Energy and Jiangsu Haizhou Bay Development Group. It is an important project in the 14th Five Year Plan of Jiangsu Province, a key implementation project of the Yangtze River Delta integrated development strategy, and a supporting project of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, a national key energy project.
