In January 2018, the Nema Railway, a standard gauge railway between Nairobi and Malaba in Kenya undertaken by China Communications Construction Group, started construction, once again bringing new hope for the development of East Africa. The Nema Railway is a further extension of the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway, which runs from the capital Nairobi to the northwest through Naivasha, Kisumu and other areas to the border city of Malaba, Kenya and Uganda. As an important part of the East African railway network, the Neima Railway has a normal track length of 487.5 kilometers and adopts the first-class standard design of China National Railway. After completion, it will connect the East African region and is one of the benchmark projects of China's Belt and Road Initiative to penetrate the African continent.
There is an African proverb that if you want to go far, you must go in company. The Neima Railway project carries the local people's yearning for and pursuit of a better life, boosts the spirit of the local people, and leads the East African land to accelerate the pace of development.
