Germany and South Africa have agreed to cooperate on the green hydrogen project, which is the latest measure for Europe to use Africa's huge potential for Renewable resource to achieve the net zero goal by 2050.

According to the agreement, Germany will assist in developing markets, promoting imports, and linking producers with technology partners, "said Masopha Moshoeshoe, a senior executive at the Office of Investment and Infrastructure of the South African President.

Moshoeshoe stated that this collaboration will help create business opportunities between our developers and German buyers.

Green hydrogen is produced by decomposing Water splitting into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable energy, and can be used as fuel in transportation, petrochemical, steel and other industries. European countries are turning to Africa to ensure future fuel supply, investing heavily in green hydrogen projects in countries such as Namibia, Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa.

The Netherlands and Denmark have launched a $1 billion green hydrogen fund in South Africa. A similar fund was established in Namibia in 2022.

South Africa is the most developed economy on the African continent and the 14th largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world. It also considers green hydrogen as an important pillar of its decarbonization efforts.Editor/XingWentao
