At 23:58 on June 30, 2023, the Huaneng Shangdu Million Kilopower Wind Power Base, the first wind fire baling and outgoing new energy base project in China, was connected to the grid in full capacity, marking that the installed capacity of China Huaneng Group's new energy exceeded 60 million kW.
China Huaneng actively serves the "dual carbon" goal, vigorously promotes green and low-carbon transformation, and continuously promotes the leapfrog development of new energy in scale and efficiency. The installed capacity of new energy has exceeded 50 million kilowatts by the end of 2022.
Since 2023, China Huaneng has focused on building a new power system and new energy system, continued to accelerate the pace of green transformation, and made every effort to focus on the development of large bases, running a new "acceleration" of new energy development, achieving a leap of 60 million kilowatts of new energy installed capacity. As a result, the proportion of low-carbon and clean energy installed capacity has exceeded 44%.
Huaneng Shangdu Million Kilopower Wind Power Base is located in Plain Blue Banner and Duolun County, Xilingol League, Inner Mongolia. It adopts the wind and fire bundled transmission mode, relies on the 3.72 million kW thermal power of Shangdu Power Plant, builds 2 million kW wind power, gives full play to the role of thermal power in peak shaving, realizes the coordinated optimization of thermal power and wind power, and ensures the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
The project has broken through the complete set of key technologies for the design and construction of large megawatt onshore wind farm, and for the first time, large capacity wind turbines of more than 4 megawatts have been fully applied in the million Kilopower wind power base.
In order to ensure the smooth grid connection and power generation of long-distance and large-capacity wind farms, the project adopts a six station and five line method for the first time, with a total of 5 wind farms constructed, including 5 220 kV booster stations and 1 500 kV central gathering station. The project shares a 500 kV transmission line with thermal power units to transmit power to the North China Power Grid.
The project adopts a construction mode of building while investing, and grid connection in batches, breaking through multiple key core technologies such as transient overvoltage and subsynchronous oscillation in the wind and fire bundling system, solving problems such as excessive resonance current and the risk of broadband oscillation in the transmission system, ensuring the stability of the transmission system. It can transmit 6.5 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity to the Beijing Tianjin Tang region every year, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 5.4 million tons, and has significant economic and ecological environmental benefits.
