Recently, the No. 2 Hydropower Station Project on the Nabalong River in Rwanda contracted by China Water Resources and Hydropower Construction Corporation (Sinohydro) was successfully closed, marking the full commencement of the main works of the hydropower station.

Project Overview

The Nabarronge River No.2 Hydropower Station is located on the main stream of the Nabarronge River at the border between the northern and southern provinces of Rwanda. The construction includes the construction of a dam, flood discharge system, water diversion and power generation system, and transmission and transformation lines. The reservoir has a capacity of 803.8 million cubic meters and the installed capacity of the power station is 43.5 megawatts.

The person in charge of the project said that the closure of Nabalonge River No. 2 Hydropower Station project demonstrated Sinohydro's efficient performance capability and social responsibility, and established a good brand image with practical actions. This project is the largest project in Rwanda supported by the Chinese government and funded by Chinese financial institutions, and it is also one of the key projects of the "Eight Action Plans" of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit in 2018.Editor/Ma Xue
