After the China Saudi Arabia consortium received a construction contract for a $677 million project, a large seawater desalination plant along the Red Sea coast is one step closer to construction. Saudi company ACWA Powe has signed agreements with the group, including China Electric Power Company headquartered in Beijing, SEPCOIII headquartered in Qingdao, and Wetico located in Riyadh.
Rabigh 4 independent water plant will be built in the western province of Saudi Arabia, mainly serving Mecca and Medina. Once completed, it will double ACWA Power's seawater desalination capacity in the region to 1.2 million cubic meters per day, as the company already operates Rabigh 3 IWP in the same area.
SEPCOIII Chairman Zhao Qiming said at the signing ceremony held in Riyadh that this announcement marks another milestone in our ongoing cooperation with ACWA Power and consolidates our common commitment to promoting sustainable water solutions in the Kingdom.
At the same ceremony, Mohammad Abunayyan, Chairman of ACWA Power, expressed his satisfaction with the continuous progress of the project and added that our presence in seawater desalination has led to localized production by major suppliers in Saudi Arabia. The project will create new job opportunities during construction, operation, and maintenance, mainly composed of young local talents from our local power and water colleges. Developed over the past decade.
In December 2022, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with companies from Asian countries. These agreements cover financing, investment, engineering procurement and construction contracts, as well as the procurement of renewable energy equipment. The record of cooperation between ACWA Power and China began in 2009, when the company opened an office in Beijing.Editor/XingWentao
