It is reported that Guangzhou-Shenzhen second high-speed rail is expected to start construction in 2024, passing through Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen three cities, the overall north-south trend, is expected to be completed in 2029; The line starts from Guangzhou North Railway Station, passes through Baiyun Airport, Yuzhu Station, Dongguan Nancheng Yudi Station, and leads to Shenzhen Airport Station, forming a fast direct channel between Guangzhou-Shenzhen and Dongguan. In particular, the site of Dongguan station is located in Nancheng Qudi, and Dongguan Central Station is set up, becoming the first high-speed rail station in Dongguan central city.

According to the current Guangzhou-Shenzhen line, from Shenzhen North Railway Station to Guangzhou city, it takes 29 minutes by high-speed rail (Shenzhen North Railway Station - Guangzhou South Railway Station) + 38 minutes by metro (Guangzhou South Railway Station - Tiyu West Road Station), the new "Hong Kong West Kowloon - Guangzhou East" line opened in 2023, Shenzhen North to Guangzhou East section of the fastest 67 minutes. From Shenzhen North Railway Station to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, including high-speed train 29 minutes (Shenzhen North Railway Station - Guangzhou South Railway Station) + subway 77 minutes (Guangzhou South Railway Station to Baiyun Airport South), a total of about 106 minutes.

After the completion and opening of the second Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway, it only takes 20 minutes from Baiyun Airport to Shenzhen Airport, and it takes more than 20 minutes for Dongguan central city to direct Guangzhou-Shenzhen Airport, which will further promote the linkage development of Guangzhou metropolitan area and Shenzhen metropolitan area, and accelerate the pace of "high-speed rail into the city" in the three cities of Guangzhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen.
